Sydney Kimnach, sophomore in environmental studies and fisheries and wildlife management, carries her research project to the bank of the Niobrara. She places a collection of filter plates each saturated with elements, such as potassium, to see if the algae are attracted to various nutrients. Her multiple sites also allow her to research if algae in different areas of the river seek out different nutrients.
