Changmin Yan and Valerie Jones collaborated with researchers at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and University of Nebraska at Omaha, through the College of Journalism and Mass Communication’s Consortium for Health Promotion and Translational Research. They found that interacting with personal voice assistants such as Amazon’s Echo Dot, otherwise known as Alexa, can lessen loneliness in older Americans who live alone. July 6, 2021. Dave Tyler, Control Systems Tech, uses a hot wire anemometer to measure air coming from a vent in a practice room in Westbrook Music Building. To mitigate the risk of virus transfer within the buildings, the facilities team is increasing by nearly 50 percent the amount of fresh air being drawn into HVAC systems. They are also upgrading filters to more efficiently capture and reduce large and small particles in the air. July 27, 2020. Photo by Craig Chandler / University Communication.

Jack Dohrman, Interim University Space Manager, with Facilities Management and Planning, and Shawn Languis, Space Planning/GIS Data Coordinator with Facilities Management and Planning use tape measures to gauge physical distancing needs within an Avery Hall classroom. Based on their measurements, seating in this classroom will shift from 35 desks in a regular semester to 14 in the fall. The change allows the university meet the six-foot social distancing needs related to COVID-19. In large lecture halls, seating capacity is expected to be reduced to 20 percent.
