![Paul Barnes, Marguerite Scribante Professor of Piano in the Glenn Korff School of Music, is reflected in the piano lid as spectators pass through the sculpture. A rain delay caused the Mueller Tower to play over his first piece. After the concert, he replayed the piece as a line of people passed around the piano. Barnes performed a special program of composer Philip Glass’ works inside “Greenpoint,” a sculpture by Richard Serra. Greenpoint, part of Sheldon Museum of Art’s sculpture collection, was made by Richard Serra, who died March 26. Barnes’ performance paid tribute to the creative relationship between Glass and Serra. Glass worked as an assistant for Serra after the two befriended each other in Paris in the early 1960s. Barnes has worked with Glass for 29 years, including two commissions and several transcriptions and recordings of his work. May 1, 2024.
