It was discovered that the original 1855 edition of “Leaves of Grass” has variations across copies, due to Walt Whitman’s stop-press revisions, and the fact that it was produced on a hand printing press, which allowed for type to move and fall off. A new grant awarded to the University of Nebraska will allow researchers in the Center for Digital Research in the Humanities (CDRH) to examine about 20 of the original copies to record and research the variations and build an online variorum accessible to scholars and casual readers alike.
