Nitish Bastola and Taisa Medina, PhD Civil Engineering students at UNL, beside Foundry Road in South Sioux City, Nebraska. Foundry road was being paved with asphalt that contained millions of plastic bags in an effort to reduce landfill waste. South Sioux City collaborated with Jamilla Teixeira, Assistant Professor of Engineering, on the project. The road is the first in Nebraska to be paved with asphalt containing plastic. June 11, 2025.
