230127 Francisco Souto 031

Along with the graphite drawings, "We Are Nebraska" includes an acrylic paint pattern that spans the bottom of the artwork. A signature component of Francisco Souto's artwork, the pattern is an ode to Carlos Cruz-Diez, a fellow Venezuelan artist who ranks among the greatest artistic innovators of the 20th century. In this pattern, Souto features the yellow, blue and red of the Venezuelan flag, connecting his home nation with the Nebraska images above. Francisco Souto (second from left) discusses "We Are Nebraska" with members of Chancellor Ronnie Green's executive leadership team. The artworks took 17 months to create and consists of graphite pencil drawings of students, professors and Chancellor Ronnie Green. January 27, 2023.
